SUBTRACTIVE COLOR
Colors mixed in painting, or in printing,
are using the subtractive color method. Subtractive color mixing begins
with white, and as color is added, ends with black. Traditional offset
printing, which is an example of subtractive color, uses 4 colors; Cyan,
Magenta, Yellow and Black, commonly referred to as CMYK.
ADDITIVE COLOR
When working on a computer, the colors displayed on the screen are created
with light using the additive color method. Additive color mixing begins
with black, and as more color is added, it ends with white. The result
is lighter and tends to white. Computer monitors, which are an example
of additive color, use a combination of Red, Green and Blue, commonly
referred to as RGB.
